NERC glossary of the month

Each month, we share some of the terminology used by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation. You’ll see these terms in reports and other coverage of the electric power industry, so it’s a good idea to brush up on exactly what NERC means.

Cyber Security Incident
This term refers to any malicious act or suspicious event that tries to compromise or disrupt a Critical Cyber Asset’s security perimeter.

Direct Control Load Management
Demand-side management programs that involve controlling the electric supply to individual appliances or equipment on customer premises and that are under the direct control of the system operator (excluding Interruptible Demand) fall into this category.

Distribution Provider
Wabash Valley Power is registered as a Distribution Provider, meaning that we provide and operate the connections between the transmission system and end-use customers.
