The Power Report
Northern Indiana to get another wind farm
August 02, 2011
With the region’s reputation for grain farming, people have been accustomed to watching things sprout from northern Indiana’s farm fields. But in recent years, the corn, soybeans, and wheat plants have been joined by massive turbines as the area becomes a major producer of wind energy.

The state’s next wind farm is planned for 17,000 acres about 45 miles north of Indianapolis, where E.ON Climate & Renewables North America has leased sites in Madison, Grant, Howard and Tipton counties. The first phase of the project, which will be called the Wildcat Wind Farm, will produce roughly 200 megawatts of electricity. Indiana Michigan Power has agreed to buy half of that.
