Environmentalists praise utility’s programs
The Sierra Club is not normally known for saying positive things about power producers, but officials of that organization recently praised NIPSCO’s clean-energy efforts.
Sierra Club officials held a press conference to announce the formation of the Clean Energy Future Coalition, a group that is focused on efforts to move from coal-fired power plants to greener forms of generation. They praised the Indiana investor-owned utility’s net metering and pilot feed-in tariff programs for promoting customer use of solar, wind, and other Earth-friendly generation.
The Sierra Club presented 1,000 petitions from customers thanking NIPSCO CEO Jimmy Staton for positioning NIPSCO as a leader in clean energy. “Clean Energy programs will create economic opportunity to put Hoosiers back to work in the jobs and industries that will keep us competitive in the 21st century” said Regional Director of the Blue Green Alliance Tom Conway.
